Myths
Myth: Everyone has the same rates! Although insurance agencies use the same rating manuals, knowledge of the building makes all the difference. National Flood Insurance Program wants the owner of a building to find the most favorable premium. Insurance agencies can use the Grandfather rule when they have accurate information on the building. Myth: Old maps cannot be used! We use old maps everyday to help buyers when they are purchasing a new building. We have save 100 of clients, $1000s of dollars by doing this. When asking for a quote from an insurance agency ask them if they Grandfather? If they don't know what that means or don't do it, then you need to find someone else. Myth: An Old Flood Elevation cannot be used! They can. To use an old flood elevation the building cannot be so altered that it is no longer in compliance with National Flood building code requirements.
