Talk
It Up
Raised construction can lower
your
flood premium!
We
encourage
anyone using our site to print our Talk it Up flyers.
This is a great tool for the encouragment of building raised
construction
as it clearly shows the savings in flood premiums when building above
base
flood elevations. The flyers can be used regardless of what part
of
the country the dwelling is to be located as long as it is an AE flood
zone.
FEMA has a flood rating program called Community Rating System that allows discounts off the flood premiums if a community takes measures to reduce future flooding beyond what Fema requires to qualify for the National Flood Insurance Program. We offer 18 flyers. The CRS discount can be as high as 45%. Under CRS list, find the state then check for the community where the dwelling will be located. The easiest way to find your community is to check with the local building permit office or go to www.fema.gov map store and type in the location and it will show you the community name. Both of these places can also provide the current flood zone. Next you need to see if that community is listed for a discount. For Louisiana, we include the names of the 38 communities that receive a discount. The percentage is shown under column 6 labeled SFHA. NOTE: Sometimes communities within a parish (county) can receive a higher or lower discount than the parish (county) within which it is located. If your community is listed on the CRS list then it could have a different discount from your parish (county) discount. If it is not listed separately, the discount is the same as the parish (county). CRS LIST If you are a builder, a real estate agent, lender or someone building a new dwelling then our Talk It Up flyers should be of interest to you. Another good site to check out is SouthernPine.com that offer education seminars all over the country. If you are a builder, real estate agent or lender who promotes raised construction, we would like to add your website to ours. Email us with that info. Sadly, over the years we have seen many +0 flood elevation certificates miss a +1 by an inch or two! It is our goal to help educate the public about flood insurance and the savings that raised construction offers. The flyers below are
designed to assist you in either building an elevated dwelling or
elevating and existing one. The higher a dwelling is above the
Base Flood Elevation where the dwelling is located, the lower the
insurance premiums can be. When it comes to dwellings being
elevated due to flooding where ICC (Increased Cost of
Compliance) is involved, FEMA will only elevate to the new base flood
elevation, the owner would have to pay the cost to raise the dwelling
higher, so these flyers give accurate flood premiums to understand the
savings involved in going above base flood.
To find which flyer applies
to your particular location you need to know the
following:
The community
name
Tthe CRS discount
percentages
And we provide you with the
resources to find them both.
Under Pub. & Links
first find the Fema Map store under link
#5. Type in the address
and the community name will appear. Then go to link
#2 or #3 to see if that community qualifies for a
discount. If they DO NOT use 0% CRS. If you see a discount above 15%
then use the figures from 0%, subtract $35 federal fee then take the
corrected CRS percentage then add the fee back on. We are giving the
most common CRS discount flyers. The highest discount is
45%!
